Confusing Words > ago and before
Does "bored" mean the same as "boring"? What's the difference between "funny" and "fun"? Here are some commonly confused English word pairs.

AGO AND BEFORE
Ago always counts back from the present time. If we are counting back from a past time, use -> before .

Examples:

I met Steven in Germany 10 years ago.

Talking to him I found out that I had been at university with his sister twenty years before.

She met him in France in November 2008; he told her he had published a book five years before.
