Confusing Words > altar and alter
Does "bored" mean the same as "boring"? What's the difference between "funny" and "fun"? Here are some commonly confused English word pairs.

ALTAR AND ALTER
ALTAR - a type of table used in ceremonies in a Christian church or in other religious buildings

Examples:

An altar cloth is used by various religious groups to cover an altar.

Covering an altar with cloth may also be a sign of respect towards the holiness of the altar.

ALTER - to change something; to change the size of clothes so that they fit better

Examples:

Yesterday they had to alter some of their plans.
